Pre-tox to Detox
6 Reasons to Pre-tox this Christmas
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, Pre-toxing is when you offset frivolous festive partying by detoxing in advance.
Its important to get your body (and mind) prepped for all the holiday season parties and follow our simple steps to not overdoing it this Christmas and strengthen that immune system, all ready to embrace the festive cheer.
*Did you know that on average we gain up to an extra 5lb – not that surprising when you consider that most of us eat in excess of 6,000 calories on Christmas Day alone!!
1. STAY HYDRATED
Drink lots of water! (and if you don’t believe us ask Rise Instructor Hailey when she covered the benefits of water on her blog HELL NO H2O!) If water isn’t something that flows easily for you, then add a slice of lemon, cucumber, orange or even a sprig of fresh mint for flavour. Make sure you keep your water intake up in between nights out and after those extra happy hours!
Exercise can help maintain a healthy metabolism and supports your digestive system cope in advance of festive over-indulgence. The harder you make your body work, the more you get out of it.
It is widely known that regular steams or saunas are a great way to release toxins from the body through sweat. A simple spinning session (RIDE45) or a Hot HIIT class are one of the best remedies for sweating out the over indulgence from the night before.
4. STAY FRESH
Peppermint or mint is a great detox fix as it does wonders for your digestive system, and also prevents nausea & vomiting if you have over done it the night before. Why not ask our friends at the 100 club for a mint and apple shot! Or try juicing at home, starting with a fresh ginger, turmeric and cayenne pepper juice. When you combine them into a single treatment you get a powerful concoction that has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to support the cleansing and protection of your body’s main systems. It’s recommended for when you need to detox your body, cleanse your lymphatic system, improve your natural defenses, and increase your metabolism.
5. SNACK SMART
All the festive food you consume during the Christmas period will make your body’s ph balance acidic, putting it under huge strain. Make sure that every meal has vegetables in to shift your ph to alkaline- why not make your own kale chips?! All you need is a fresh bag of kale, olive oil, pink himalayan salts, topped with chilli or tahini and leave to de-hydrate in your oven for a couple of hours.
Even more so, our instructors love a handful of activated nuts here in the studio. You will often find them hiding behind reception munching on them- they’re amazing for their super nourishing, energetic and antioxidant qualities.
Get your beauty sleep!! Believe it or not but its called ‘beauty sleep’ for a reason. Having between 8-9 hours of sleep a night helps your body to rest, recover and recharge. Getting enough sleep has been shown to improve memory, creativity and reduce stress. Whilst, not getting enough shut-eye has been linked with dehydration and weight gain as it increases the production of hunger hormones which can disrupt your metabolism.
As with everything in life prevention is better than cure, so remember that before you order your last drink, take your last mouthful of Christmas dinner or move onto your next club.
Tis the season to be jolly, so don’t stress over something that only happens once a year!
